How Covervalue is run, where its numbers come from, and what it won't do with your information.
EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE
Covervalue does not accept payment from insurance carriers, agencies or brokers in exchange for coverage, ranking or placement anywhere on this site. Guides, calculators and highlighted figures are chosen and written by the editorial team based on relevance to common coverage decisions, not commercial arrangements.
Where the site's content touches on a specific carrier, product type or category, that inclusion reflects editorial judgment about what's useful to explain — never a paid relationship. If that changes for any part of the site in the future, it will be disclosed plainly on the relevant page.
METHODOLOGY
Term Need Estimator
Uses an income-replacement approach: annual income × years of support, plus debt and future obligations, minus liquid assets and existing coverage. This is one common method among several a licensed advisor might use.
Out-of-Pocket Maximum Analyzer
Combines twelve months of premium with either expected costs or the plan's full out-of-pocket maximum, to show a light-usage and heavy-usage annual total for comparison.
Property & Asset Protection Calculator
Estimates dwelling value from square footage and local rebuild cost, derives contents value as a percentage of dwelling value, and flags valuables above a standard scheduling sublimit.
None of these methods account for individual underwriting, state regulation or carrier-specific rules — they are starting points for a conversation, not a substitute for one.
DATA SOURCING, TRANSPARENCY & ETHICS
Reference ranges shown on this site (deductible ranges, out-of-pocket maximum ranges, and similar figures) are general U.S. market reference points compiled by the editorial team from publicly available plan summaries and industry reporting, not from any single carrier's live pricing feed. They are meant to orient a reader, not to price an individual policy.
Every calculator on this site shows its inputs, its formula in plain language, and its stated limitations alongside the result — nothing is calculated behind the scenes without an explanation next to it. If a figure changes between visits, it's because the underlying reference data or methodology was updated, and material changes are reflected directly on the relevant page.
Calculator inputs are processed in your browser to produce a result and are not sent to a server or stored by Covervalue. Contact form submissions are used only to respond to your inquiry and are not sold or shared with insurance carriers or third-party marketers.
